The Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) is one of the main tertiary care teaching hospitals of Pakistan. Located in the centre of Karachi, the institute started functioning on June 3, 2005.
KIHD undertakes modern treatment of cardiovascular disease, carries out research, works on prevention and control of heart disease, and trains medical students and nurses at undergraduate and postgraduate level — developing into a centre of excellence for cardiovascular care.
The institute is a 170-bed hospital with a fully equipped Emergency Room, CCU, medical, surgical and private wards, intensive care, two cardiac catheterization laboratories, two surgical theatres, ECHO, ETT and nuclear imaging, a rehabilitation centre, a research department and a round-the-clock laboratory.
The building is inaugurated as a maternity home by Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
Serves as the temporary campus of Karachi Medical & Dental College, inaugurated by the then Prime Minister.
Foundation stone laid for renovation of the building as an institute of heart diseases, after an expert survey committee selected the site.
